Define a syllabus or belt ladder

Set up a belts & ranks ladder (syllabus) for a training program using a preset or build your own.

A syllabus defines the progression ladder for a program — the belts, levels, or grades a student moves through over time. Each belt is one row in the syllabus; stripes are a count on that row, not separate rows.

Go to Settings in the sidebar, then open Training. From a program's belts & ranks controls (for example Make this graded or Edit belts & ranks / visibility) you reach the Syllabuses page, which shows Your schemes and the preset library. (For the full setup flow, go to Settings → Training.)

Start from a preset

Presets are ready-made belt ladders. One click adds the syllabus to your gym; you can rename, recolour, and adjust it afterwards.

  1. Under Start from a preset, find the preset you want (for example, BJJ Adult or BJJ Kids).
  2. Select Add to my gym. The syllabus appears in Your schemes immediately.
  3. Select the scheme row to open the editor and make any adjustments.

Build your own syllabus

Use this when none of the presets fit your discipline.

  1. Select Build a syllabus in the top-right.
  2. Enter a Scheme name (for example, Kickboxing Levels).
  3. In the What do you call a rank? field, type the word you use (for example, Belt, Level, Grade).
  4. Select Create scheme. The editor opens on the empty syllabus.
  5. Add ranks one at a time (see below).

Add a rank to a scheme

From inside the scheme editor:

  1. Select Add rank.
  2. In the Add a rank dialog, enter the rank Name (for example, Blue).
  3. Pick a Colour using the colour picker or type a hex code directly.
  4. Set Stripes — the most stripes a member can earn before they are eligible for promotion. Set to 0 for no stripes.
  5. Under Promotion requirements (optional), enter Classes before promotion and/or Days at this rank if your gym gates promotions here. Leave both blank for no automated requirement.
  6. Tick Top of the ladder (no promotion beyond this rank) for the highest rank.
  7. Select Add rank.

Repeat for each belt or level. Ranks display in the order you add them; reorder with the up and down arrows on each row.

Reorder ranks

Select the up or down chevron on a rank row to move it. The new order is saved immediately to the server.

Edit a rank

Select the pencil icon on the rank row, change any field, and select Save changes.

Remove a rank

Select the trash icon on the rank row, then confirm. Ranks that members already hold cannot be removed — the confirmation will tell you if the rank is in use.

Link a scheme to a program

Each program can have one default scheme. When a student is enrolled in that program, they start at the bottom rank of the default scheme automatically.

  1. From Your schemes, select the pencil icon on the scheme row.
  2. In the Program picker, select the training program.
  3. Tick Default scheme for this program if this scheme should auto-apply to new enrolments.
  4. Select Save.

Copy a scheme

To create a variant of an existing scheme without touching the original:

  1. Select the copy icon on the scheme row.
  2. Enter a New scheme name.
  3. Select Create copy. The copy opens ready to edit.

Delete a scheme

Select the trash icon on the scheme row, then confirm. Schemes that members are graded against cannot be deleted — the system will tell you.
