Reports won't open, a bookmark 404s, or a report keeps loading

What to do when a saved report link 404s, your role cannot open Reports, or a report keeps loading.

Symptom

You open Reports and hit a stale bookmark, a blank page, or a loading spinner that never resolves.

Cause A: You followed an old or incomplete report link

The Reports page is a navigation hub, and the individual data lives in sub-reports such as attendance, revenue, retention, and membership reports. If you followed a saved bookmark or an older shared link to a sub-report path that changed, you may see a 404.

Fix: Go to Reports from the main navigation menu. Select the specific sub-report you need from the cards shown on the home page (Attendance, Demographics, Growth, Memberships, Retention, Revenue).

Cause B: Your role does not include reporting permission

The Reports section requires the reports.view permission. If your account was recently changed or you are logged in as a role without that permission, the page may be blocked or blank.

Fix: Ask a gym owner to check your role and permissions under Settings → Staff. The gym owner and admin roles include reports.view by default.

Cause C: The report data is still loading or a network request timed out

Sub-reports run queries over your full member and attendance history. A slow connection or a large date range can cause the spinner to persist.

Fix:

  1. Refresh the page.
  2. If the report still does not load, narrow the date range filter to a shorter period (for example, the last 30 days) and try again.
  3. If the problem persists, try a different browser or clear your browser cache.

Cause D: A temporary API error

Occasionally the reporting endpoint may return an error due to a background task or a service restart.

Fix: Wait a minute and refresh. If the issue continues for more than 10 minutes, email team@basecontrol.co and include the report name, date range, and the URL that failed.
